Featured Artwork: 'The Overthinker'
Inspired by Rodin’s classic, 'The Thinker', this piece looks at a problem of the modern age. I often feel paralysed by thought, and overthinking holds me back from feeling connected to the present moment and other people, taking me away. So, this piece is a reminder to be mindful of our thoughts, let them go and reconnect with the present.
The animals in the piece symbolise aspects of our unconscious mind, which shapes our world out of sight, until the consequences bubble up into the spotlight of our conscious experience. The text hints at self-reflection and offers a hopeful reminder that this, too, shall pass.
This mixed-media canvas was created by painting several canvases, tearing them up and collaging segments that were then stitched together. The edges of the painting are left loose, and the canvas is left raw to give an unfinished look, reflecting that everyone's life is a work in progress.
