Overstimulation, Visualised — and the Part We Don’t Usually Talk About

Here's why this one's a bit different.

This artwork is titled 'Overstimulated', and it's about a moment of feeling overstimulated and overwhelmed. I often make artworks of figures, with flowers, symbolising hope and self-reflection. This mixed-media collage piece is about finding a way out of that sense of feeling overwhelmed. Taking a breath, letting go, and returning to present.

Every sensation and thought that comes to us will pass.

I used to believe I could think my way out of moments like this and take control of myself, but it's accepting our limits and letting go of control that will help best when feeling like everything is happening all at once. So, this piece is a reminder to practice mindfulness and to make little moments of peace and stillness throughout the day to help your brain.

Mixed-media collage artwork with painted abstracts, detailed pencil drawing of eyes, torn paper patterns, and stitched layers sewn together.
