This painting is about inner conflict and the challenge of experiencing opposing ideas and emotions.

The goldfinches, traditionally symbols of renewal and letting go, emerge from the vase in a moment of confrontation. Their struggle symbolises the competing thoughts and impulses that often shape our inner lives, a reminder that growth is rarely straightforward.

Woven tapestry clouds and hand-stitched flowers form part of the piece's surface, creating a landscape that feels both physical and imagined. Together, these elements map the many directions in which our attention can be pulled. Without awareness, our thoughts can scatter and compete; with reflection, we can begin to find clarity and balance.

The work is also rooted in the idea that we are constantly shaped by the world around us while, at the same time, shaping it through our thoughts and actions. There is a tension between what we see, hear, hope for, and feel, and it is within that tension that growth becomes possible.

At its heart, the painting is a reminder that growth is not always peaceful. It often emerges through uncertainty, contradiction, and the ongoing process of learning who we are becoming.

  • This piece was created using oil paint, acrylic, charcoal, and digitally designed jacquard tapestry on canvas. Layers of painting, drawing, collage, and stitched fabric are combined to create textured surfaces that feel both fragmented and emotionally charged.

    I often tear apart sections of my paintings and stitch them back together using my sewing machine, allowing the work to evolve through layering, reconstruction, and experimentation. The woven tapestry elements are digitally designed by me and produced in collaboration with a weaving studio in the United States.

    My creative process is playful, intuitive, and constantly evolving. I collect images, colours, textures, and symbols that I feel emotionally connected to. I then combine and rearrange them in search of balance within the composition.

    Through repeated layering, reworking, and partial destruction of the surface, the artworks gradually develop their fractured and dreamy appearance.

  • This artwork comes in a walnut veneer, wooden float frame. The canvas is left raw to give an unfinished look, reflecting that everyone's life is a work in progress.
