Here's How I Stay Productive

The recent heatwave has made it difficult to focus on work, with the heat in the studio and the sun making the outdoors seem all the more appealing. So, I have been sticking to the basics: showing up at the studio daily and creating art for at least a couple of hours.

I’ve found my stride and stability in routine. Going slow and making small steps has led to substantial progress this month.

I've been working small a lot in the last few weeks. Partly to get ideas out of my head. Partly because it's quick, and I can play with lots of techniques, plus it's fun.

I used to find small pieces fiddly, but now I realise I was doing it wrong. Making art on a small scale means they just need to be kept simple and to let go of the details. These are great things to practice and will help develop ideas for my larger canvases.

So, this is me and a few of the 60+ mini artworks I've been making (some go on the wall, others in the bin 😂). Expect to see more like this in the future because I’m enjoying making mini artworks.
