Still Life Collage ii
mixed media on canvas
34 × 44 cm
2026
Exploring flowers as symbols of hope, this piece draws on the compositional and allegorical traditions of classical still life.
A mix of representational styles reflects the breadth of human experience, while the collaged objects reimagine the genre’s poetic symbolism and invite viewers to consider what brings them hope and comfort today.
A bouquet, a celebration of life's milestones, becomes a focal point for reflecting on hope amid constant change.

This piece was created using acrylic paint, oil pastel and charcoal on canvas, and features jacquard tapestry detailing. I tear up my canvases and bits of painting I make, and I stitch them together with my sewing machine. I also digitally design the sections of tapestry that are woven for me by a weaving studio in the US.
My creative process is very playful, experimental and always evolving. I take images I think look good, of things I connect with and which have some poetic symbolism. I try a lot of combinations of images, colours and text to try and find balance in a composition. Many iterations and a continuing process of creating, layering, and destroying images lead to the fragmented, fractured aesthetic of my works.

This artwork comes in a wooden float frame. The canvas is left raw to give an unfinished look, reflecting that everyone's life is a work in progress.
