Overstimulated

Mixed media on canvas
50 × 65 cm
2025

A sensation many of us are familiar with in modern life, when things are coming at us from all sides, and we feel like we are drowning in sensory or mental overload.

A signal that it is time for us to rest, reflect, and recharge.

This piece was created by ripping up offcuts and old paintings, layering colours and textures that resonate, and then stitching them together. The result of this process is a textured mixed-media canvas.

  • This piece was created by ripping up offcuts and old paintings, layering colours and textures that resonate, and then stitching them together. The materials include acrylic paint and charcoal on canvas and woven tapestry.

My creative process is very playful, experimental and always evolving. I take images I think look good, of things I connect with and which have some poetic symbolism. I try a lot of combinations of images, colours and text to try and find balance in a composition. Many iterations and a continuing process of creating, layering and destroying images lead to the fragmented and fractured aesthetic of my works.
